Fresh grad creates vegan content to contribute to the kind movement

Wong Jing Ni, vegan content creator

23-year-old Wong Jing Ni used to say that she would never go vegan. And then she did – overnight! Her choice to go vegan for the animals was a turning point in her life and she has not looked back since.

Ultimately, it was my love for animals that solidified my decision. They deserve to live their lives free from harm, just as much as we do. My advice is to take it one step at a time, and don’t be too hard on yourself.

The recent Environmental Engineering graduate from the National University of Singapore (NUS) is currently focusing on doing what she loves - creating content about vegan recipes and sharing her vegan travel adventures. She also showcases the amazing plant-based food she has discovered in various cities, including New Zealand, Japan and South Korea on her instagram handle @bakeyvakey with over 75,000 followers in 2024.

Jing Ni faced her fair share of challenges as a vegan, such as dealing with social situations or finding plant-based options while traveling. But over time, she grew confident and resourceful with her vegan lifestyle becoming second nature.

It was all about learning and growing—whether it was discovering new recipes, finding vegan-friendly restaurants, or even learning how to explain my choice to others in a positive way. With time, the challenges that once seemed daunting started to fade away.

Jing Ni took up vegan content creation to show that living compassionately is not only doable but can be fun and delicious too. It was her way of contributing to the plant-based movement and helping others see the infinite possibilities. She is loving every moment of her incredible rewarding professional journey and excited about where it is heading.

However, it is not without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles she came across from netizens was dealing with misconceptions about veganism, which affects her more than personal comments. Taking it positively, the challenge drives her to create more content—to show that being vegan is not only possible but also joyful, appetizing and fulfilling.

I want to break those stereotypes and help others see the beauty of a plant-based lifestyle. The support from my audience and the positive impact I see makes it all worth it.
