Top Singapore vegan instagrammer launched recipe website on World Vegan Day

Ramya Ramesh

It has been my pleasure to meet like-minded individuals and creators in the same space as me and who are rooting for and believing in making the world a better place. It’s amazing to see how we are all fighting for the same cause.

On November 1, touted as World Vegan Day, Ramya Ramesh launched her plant-based cooking website browngirlveganeats.com to celebrate her collection of recipes for everyone. In a span of less than 2 years of being vegan, the 24-year-old social media executive has amassed over 105,000 followers on Instagram, thanks to her regular content made up of eye-catching visuals of food creation. Despite hailing from a little red dot on the world map, Ramya has a following that includes global vegan influencers from other countries.

“It has been my pleasure to meet like-minded individuals and creators in the same space as me and who are rooting for and believing in making the world a better place. Connecting with them has brought our global vegan community even closer. It's amazing to see how we are all fighting for the same cause,” she quips.

Ramya has put her social media skills to a worthy cause. She is a vegan for the animals. Coupled with an interest in cooking, there was no stopping Ramya from putting out post after reel after story on various dishes from a variety of cuisines from Mexican to Western to Chinese. Despite being of Indian descent, Ramya loves experimenting with diverse ethnic dishes.

Coming from a lifestyle where she consumed two eggs a day and meat on a regular basis, Ramya adopted a vegan lifestyle gradually by steadily removing them from her diet. Her journey began when she stumbled upon a chance video explaining the horrors of the dairy industry. Though she did not give up dairy overnight, she succeeded in her mission of removing animal products from her diet and lifestyle completely eventually. Hailing from the beauty industry, her channel also educates followers on beauty products that have no animal by-products and that are also not tested on animals.

While she is an ethical vegan, Ramya found that her diet also reaped health and environmental benefits. This has motivated her to stand her ground to ensure that her family and friends accommodated her diet over time.

Despite all the cons of social media, Ramya is particularly grateful to the medium for giving her a platform to share about her conscious decision to be a voice for the voiceless. In her journey, she hopes to continue to inspire many people to adopt more plant-based meals into their diet as part of the vegan revolution to impact positive changes for the planet.

I learnt that habits form when new behaviors become automatic and are enacted with minimum conscious awareness. It is very easy to give in to temptations. But I always remind myself of why I went vegan. The reason is powerful enough to make sure that I am content and happy with the decision that I made.
