In 1999, an awareness led to the formation of the Vegetarian Society (Singapore). VSS began as a society and later became a registered charity, renamed Centre For A Responsible Future in 2018.
We had many activities including outreach booths at events and libraries, talks by our members and by visiting speakers such as Professor T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, articles and letters in the media, our own publications, and a public campaign that put “Love Us, Not Eat Us” posters on the train doors at City Hall MRT station.
VSS spun off new initiatives.
First was Animal Allies Singapore, which created a community of people who support each other and spread the message of concern for our animals in agriculture.
Then came EarthFest, started in 2013 with the goal of raising the standards for large scale sustainability events in Singapore and helping engage the public on effective changes in lifestyle. The first edition of EarthFest was in September 2015 with our partner Marina Barrage, and because of its success it has become an annual flagship event.
In 2016 we launched the first crowd based environmental film festival called Earth Film Festival, which became part of the Singapore Eco Film Festival for the 2017 edition.
